What Is Grawlix?

Grawlix is a wordlist manager for crossword constructors. It lets you pull in wordlists from multiple sources, rescore them, and merge them into a single master list you can load into your construction software.

It doubles as a search tool while you're building: filter entries by substring, score, and more to quickly find the best word for a tricky slot.

Building Your Wordlist

Add wordlists from well-known sources with one click, or import your own files and URLs.

Lists merge in priority order — the higher a list sits, the more its scores count when the same word appears in multiple lists. Drag to reorder. Toggle lists on and off to experiment with different combinations.

Making It Yours

Different wordlists use different score scales. Rescore rules let you normalize them — map one score range to another so your output list has consistent scoring across all sources.

My Edits is your personal override layer. Click any score or comment to change it. Add words that don't appear in any source list. My Edits always has the highest priority — your changes are never overwritten by a list update.

Searching Your Wordlist

Type in the search bar to instantly filter the wordlist. Matches are highlighted in color so you can see exactly where the term appears.

Set a minimum score to hide lower-quality entries. Toggle Whole word to match only complete words rather than substrings.

Downloading Your Wordlist

Download the merged Output List or any individual list. Choose lowercase or UPPERCASE, and .txt or .dict format — whatever your construction software expects.

Ingrid, Crosserville, Crossfire, and Crossword Compiler all accept the standard text format. Use lowercase .txt unless your software says otherwise.
